* The filing deadline for H-1B visas is April 1st 2008. Only 65,000 H-1B visas are issued per year, with an addition 20,000 for those with U.S. Master’s degrees. Employees of government research organizations, institutions of higher education and or related or affiliated nonprofit entities, or nonprofit research organizations are not subject to the cap and can apply for H-1B visas at any time.
* As of January 23, 2007, citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda must show a valid passport when entering the United States if they are arriving by air.
* US consulates will no longer adjudicate immigrant visa petitions for family-based applications, as they have done in the past. All family-based immigrant visa petitions should now be forwarded directly to service centers in the U.S. for adjudication.
